This Sunday (Sunday Newsday 19.01.2020) we published our first etiquette feature for 2020 on Table Manners as a message to kids. We know as parents you have always taught your children to have manners, especially at the table. However, as time goes by and life gets increasingly busy, these lessons become less frequent and mainly reiterated over a stern look, when in the company of others.
But as we always say at The Etiquette School of the Caribbean, good manners begin at home. We encourage the parents of our students to inturn encourage their children to practice the lessons we teach every day at home. So while our article/feature on Table Manners is no invention of the manners wheel, we hope the piece reminds parents and children to practice good manners at home. Dining etiquette and table manners are just a part of the full etiquette program, but the table is the perfect place to start (or restart) as a family.
One of the ways to ensure that persons truly enjoy a meal (other than with the taste and look of the food) is through the practice of good table manners. We are sure it’s easy for parents to recall the countless incidents of unmannerly behavior at the table with the children and how it upset you and others at the table. Enjoying a pleasant meal is a luxury that any family can afford.
These simple rules are what we call Table Manners 101. These are the basics in table manners that would be all familiar to you. All are important but may be difficult to implement all at the same time. We suggest you pick a few of these rules and address them before the meal begins. Number one on the list is the perfect place to start - you can then choose whichever table mannerisms sins are most apparent in your home and continue with those.

To help reinforce these rules at the table, The Etiquette School of the Caribbean has designed a collection of elegant table napkins. Each napkin has one table etiquette rule, that is an easy reminder to all at the table to follow. The collection will be available from January 31st, 2020.
